Nate Silver puts Martha Coakley’s chances at winning today at about 25%.
We’re well past the point where we can deny that access to basic health care is a basic human right in an industrialized country. Further, the failure to pass health care reform will demonstrate the extent to which our country is beholden to an obfuscating minority; the tyranny of the few over the good of the many.
It’s no given that a Coakley loss will mean the failure of health care reform efforts, but it certainly doesn’t make it any easier.
There are dark clouds gathering today. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed.

Gasp… the unthinkable just happened… now what?
It’s hard for me to pin down the anger of the people of Mass: Was it against a lackluster candidate and a crappy campaign? Was it against the sausage-making in the final weeks of the healthcare bill? Obama won the state with 20+ points for crissake, c’mon. Was it against the healthcare bill in generl? They have quasi-universal coverage there already, maybe the flipped the bird at the whole country and decided not to pay for everyone else to have it. Bizarre.
Glad I don’t have to figure out what to do next.
Coakley was a terrible candidate, but I think the voters are in an angry mood right now and taking it out on anyone they can. Scott Brown’s excitement contrasted with Coakley’s establishment ineptitude, and he rode it to victory.
What next? Either the house passes the Senate bill, Harry Reid tries to bring Olympia Snow on board, or it’s back to the drawing board.
