Expectations

Posted by Bruno on February 5th, 2008

So, Super Tuesday is tonight, and those who listen to the podcast know who the prof and I are supporting. But, given our less-than-stellar record of supporting winners, I’d pretty much resigned myself to a Hillary victory.

But then I spotted a paragraph in a memo by Obama Campaign Manager David Plouffe (linked by Marc Ambinder):

We fully expect Senator Clinton to earn more delegates on February 5th and also to win more states. If we were to be within 100 delegates on that day and win a number of states, we will have met our threshold for success and will be best positioned to win the nomination in the coming months.

100 delegates, ouf of 2,000 possible, is incredibly close. Why would Plouffe set expectations so high? It gives a reason to hope.
