“It’s my job to make sure you don’t grow up stupid. It’s bad for the world.”
- Guidance Counselor Tami Taylor to fullback Tim Riggins on the TV Show Friday Night Lights, in what may be the most succinct argument for activist government ever penned.
(I’m just now working my way through Season 1, but FNL, incidentally, might be the best non-comedy on network television today)
Now Playing: Episode 356
The Republican Convention, Fannie and Freddie go bust, and finally, our international news roundup.
Links Mentioned: Europeans try to placate the Russians … details on the bail-out … a brief history of Fannie and Freddie … Mark Schmitt on Obama’s high-risk, high-reward strategy … Biden tears it up on the trail.

No argument, as I haven’t seen FNL, but may I recommend HBO’s The Wire if you haven’t given it a shot yet?
Agreed, beige. The Wire is quite possibly the best show on TV period. Sometimes when I watch it I think it’s better than The Sopranos, but then I go and watch the Sopranos and remember how awesome it is. Right now I’m calling it a toss-up.
Season 5 in February. I can. not. wait.
I’ve got to get the Prof to watch it so that we can talk about it more on the air. The profile in the New Yorker of David Simon is well worth your time if you’re a Wire fan.
Thanks, Bruno, for the profile tip.
