Even though the Iraq War is over, there’s an interesting op-ed in today’s Times* that will surprise you and which should do absolutely nothing to stanch Bruno’s still-surging Petrae-crush (and the Professor’s, for that matter).
*Kenneth Pollack’s a funny case, too, having had written one of the most coherent, persuasive arguments in favor of invading Iraq, then distancing himself big time from the aftermath and then now this.

Gawd, I so want to be sympathetic to this, but “Fool me once…”
In 2004 there were just a few dead enders, and the success in Tal Afar proved that victory was just around the corner
In 2005 the elections showed that victory was around the corner, but what was really around the corner was the bombing of the Samara mosque.
In 2006 the iraqi army had taken over and victory was just around the corner…
In 2007 Petraeus takes over and victory is… well…
And yet, on every available metric, including O’Hanlon’s own Iraq Index, things just get worse and worse. Electricity production has gotten so bad that the Bush administration has stopped tracking it.
’round and ’round we go…
