Lots of anti-Rudy stuff flying around these days, eh? First, you’ve got him quitting the Iraq Study Group so he could make a fortune on the lecture circuit. The man with zero national security experience sees no need to get any. Talk about irony! Then today we find out he’s been employing a disgraced priest (and good friend) who’d covered up dozens of abuse allegations over the years.
This all makes Giuliani look like a greedy jerk who’s more interested in power and control than anything else. He makes Dick Cheney look like a distinguished, respectable public servant!
Of course, this being the world we live in, let’s try to imagine the way this will be spun by Chris Matthews on his show this weekend (read this as if it was in Matthews’ voice):
“Doesn’t this really show what a great guy he is? I mean, here’s a guy who saw the ISG for what it was, a bunch of do-nothing bureaucrats, and he said, ‘I’m gonna get things DONE, instead.’ I mean, isn’t that the kinda guy you want for president?… and he sticks by his man, even if his man is a crook like Bernie Kerik or a disgraced priest. I mean, that’s the kinda leadership Americans are gonna gravitate to, I think…. Howard Fineman, let me ask you, how good is it for Giuliani that all this stuff is coming out? I mean, doesn’t it seem like he could beat up Hillary in a fight?”
We’ll report back on Monday and let know how accurate this ends up being.
