Lots of anti-Rudy stuff flying around these days, eh? First, you’ve got him quitting the Iraq Study Group so he could make a fortune on the lecture circuit. The man with zero national security experience sees no need to get any. Talk about irony! Then today we find out he’s been [...]
John Edwards Is Running For President Because He Wants To Build An America That Lives Up To Its Promise — One Where We All Share In Prosperity At Home And One That Shows Real Moral Leadership Around The World

What has John Edwards been up to since the 2004 election? Honing his sense of irony, of course:
John Edwards ended 2004 with a problem: how to keep alive his public profile without the benefit of a presidential campaign that could finance his travels and pay for his political staff.
Mr. Edwards, who reported this year that [...]
The “paperless office” hasn’t worked out so well, has it? At work, the guy from the copier leasing company and I joke about this as I write him checks totaling tens of thousands of dollars a year (yes, yes… I have a humorless office).
Anyway, it turned out that computers made it really easy [...]
After a few dribbles, the floodgates open:
Gathering for their April meeting at the county courthouse, Republican activists from Warren County, Iowa, planned for this summer’s county fair and vented about illegal immigration.
And then the county chairman for Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign, Chad Workman, made an unexpected digression: He took direct aim at Mitt Romney’s [...]

I don’t totally understand Timothy Egan’s guest op-ed in the Times today about (I guess) how Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot about immigration:
He was loud, he was blustery and he was clear: our country is being overrun by Mexicans. To back his bark, he wrote, “Whatever It Takes,” as subtle as a cactus [...]
While I thought Darcy Burner was a surprisingly strong candidate for congress in ‘06, I’m actually sort of glad that there are Democrats looking to challenge her, as a David Postman reports:
Sen. Rodney Tom, D-Medina, and a recent Democratic convert, confirmed today he is seriously considering a run. He has talked to Burner about [...]
Lots of good stuff in the energy bill that’s currently making its way through the Senate. It goes to show you that it really does matter which party controls Congress for these sorts of things. Instead of a bill that’s larded up with giveaways for oil companies, we’re going to be getting pretty [...]
I’ve taken to referring to certain examples of America’s modern architecture as “Hitler’s Revenge.” Many of the architects who reached prominence in the ’70s were either trained or heavily influenced by the Bauhaus, Walter Gropius’ early modern architecture school. Like their compatriots in Germany’s scientific community, a good number of the most prominent Bauhaus architects [...]

Sorry you had to make it through a Monday without us.
USA Today — the much reviled “McNewspaper” of my college years — once more shows off its better side: a laudable “informed populism” that the President and certain members of his party and the media (paging Matt Drudge) would do well to emulate. The newspaper is taking climate change seriously, and is publishing a [...]
