On Demand Book Publishing

The “paperless office” hasn’t worked out so well, has it? At work, the guy from the copier leasing company and I joke about this as I write him checks totaling tens of thousands of dollars a year (yes, yes… I have a humorless office).

Anyway, it turned out that computers made it really easy to generate information and make lots of copies, and that ended up creating more paper, not less. Well, things aren’t going to get any better (that is, if you’re an old-growth forest). The New York Public Library now has an Espresso Book Machine that prints books on demand for patrons.
