The Internet is no longer a baby in a crib that needs to be given special treatment to survive. It’s all growed up now, and we should treat it accordingly.
Don’t get me wrong, I see little need to “protect” mom and pop travel agents from the crushing awesomeness of Expedia. Those rinky-dink agents that still have posters of Italy and Greece circa 1975 deserve what’s coming to ‘em. But if we’re going to tax commerce, we should be consistent about it. Giving the internet a free ride is nothing more than a sop to the telecom lobby.
