With the Sonics’ potential move to Renton showing signs of life, I got to thinking: what about the Tacoma Dome? The venerable Dome has been hosting lots of arena shows that are a little too,um, blue-collar for Seattle, from Justin Timberlake to monster truck rallies to RV shows.

It’s been clear for a while that a new arena in Renton would hurt Seattle’s Key Arena, not many people are shedding tears for a 40-year-old arena that has little to nothing in the way of highway or transit access. The Seattle City Council is planning on some retrofits and upgrades if the Sonics leave town.

But a new arena in Renton, almost half way between Seattle and Tacoma, could be really bad for the Dome.
