Washington State has the 14th highest per-capita income in the country. It’s possible that that would drop a bit if you took out Bill Gates and Paul Allen, but it’s still impressive. Even more so when you consider that we’re 42nd in the nation in spending on education, and we have no income tax. How is it possible that a state that’s so personally wealthy can’t fund government and services worth a damn?
