I’ll Punch YOU, City of Seattle!

Posted by Bruno on March 9th, 2007

Finally mailed my Viaduct ballot today, with a big fat “No-No”. This was a tough one. I considered a “yes” vote on the tunnel, because, when it comes down to it, sure I’d like a $3.4B tunnel through downtown. If the state’s gonna pick up the bulk of the tab, why not? I’d also like a pony. But neither is going to happen.

And that’s where the silliness of this “advisory” vote really comes through: you have to look beyond the questions and base your vote on a complex calculus of what you think will happen, what’s politically feasible, etc. And I think that’s why most of the local editorial boards are endorsing the “no-no” position.

Anyway, in order to register my utmost disgust with this whole absurd process, I stuck a Sugar Ray Robinson stamp on my ballot, indicating my desire to punch our local officials in the metaphorical face. Go get ‘em, Sugar Ray!
