Gore vs. the Bureaucrats

Posted by Bruno on March 21st, 2007

I’m sure that Drudge, Limbaugh, and the other right-wingers who attacked Al Gore’s “hypocritical” power consumption at his Tennessee home will rally to his side now that it’s been revealed that onerous local regulations prevented him from installing solar panels on his roof.

It’s clear that the city of Nashville hates freedom, and wants to tell Gore what he can and can’t do with his property. C’mon Hannity, c’mon Glen Beck — let’s get in the game, here.

Anyway, it looks like the council will modify the regs soon, so you can call off the hounds. In the meantime, let’s take a minute to note how absurd rich people can be:

Belle Meade, the nation’s fifth-richest town according to the 2000 Census, developed the zoning rules because many of its homes have backup electric generators. The area has several tall trees and residents have discouraged Nashville Electric Service crews from pruning those near power lines. Power outages from falling branches have forced several residents to purchase backup generators.

The rich are different, it would seem. They’d rather lose power and flip on a noisy, smoke-belching gas generator than let the power company trim the trees occasionally.
