Another Tunnel Controversy

Looks like WA doesn’t have a lock on governors stepping in to put the kai-bosh on expense tunnel-transit projects.

In Virginia, the governor decided that a long-mooted extension to the DC Metro would proceed only with a cheaper, above ground solution to the problem of routing through the heavily trafficked Tyson’s Corner area.

On September 6, 2006, however, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine announced that the Silver Line would be built above ground.

I also have to remember that this particular extension to Metro has been in the works since at least 1991, when I first lived in D.C.

Just to keep our our Viaduct struggles in perspective.
