On yesterday’s podcast, I talked about the pending transfer of American soccer star Oguchi Onyewu to French team Olympic Marseilles. I pointed out that in Marseilles “Gooch” would be playing in front of fans composed largely of Arab and other African immigrants to France (native French are generally nonplussed by soccer, so in France it [...]
There are still a few things I miss about Michigan.
Like, State Troopers informing the public that it’s okay to drive faster than the posted limit.
Hundreds — possibly thousands — of signs still say 65 on I-94, I-75, I-96 and even I-696, the state’s busiest expressway. But despite what they say, the 65 m.p.h. speed limit [...]
Looks like someone else wants to play with The Precious:
Iran’s ambassador to Baghdad outlined an ambitious plan on Sunday to greatly expand its economic and military ties with Iraq — including an Iranian national bank branch in the heart of the capital — just as the Bush administration has been warning the Iranians to [...]
Well, okay, but $50 a barrel. No less.
The Saudis have decided that oil should stay at $50 per barrel. And thus it will be so. Expensive enough to keep them rich, but cheap enough to prevent a serious alternative fuel market from emerging. Perfect:
“High prices are not in the interest of [...]
I’m not a huge ethanol fan, but it sure would be better if it could compete without subsidies:
The Bush plan to cut gasoline use means more ethanol imports for the U.S., says Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman. In Davos, Switzerland, where he’s attending the World Economic Forum, Bodman also told reporters he sees the 54-cents-per-gallon [...]
Cheers to the Washington Post for calling out the President for mischaracterizing the “enemy.”
Now, this isn’t your typical Bush strawmanship, which usually is directed at mythical domestic opponents. For example, he might say, “there are people who think we should put Osama bin Laden on the Supreme Court. I strongly disagree [...]
In a development that is sure to make Tom Tancredo stew and bitch and moan and twitch, for the first time ever a Spanish-language outlet is the top rated radio station in the Denver area:
For the first time in Denver radio history, a Spanish-language station has finished atop the Arbitron ratings.
The fall 2006 ratings, [...]
God bless Gregg Easterbrook.
I was just the other day — JUST THE OTHER DAY! — ruminating on the fact that the Navy doesn’t name carriers after Democratic presidents. Now comes Easterbrook’s latest Tuesday Morning Quarterback:
Next, the Cruiser Mark Foley : The Navy just announced its next supercarrier will be the Gerald Ford. The ship is [...]
It’s that time of year again when we drink ourselves silly. A sample: when the phrase uttered is “sectarian violence,” have one car bomb (heh).
I can’t do much better in terms of rules, but I think they’re remiss for not adding something along the lines of, say, finishing one’s drink upon hearing the term “gold-plated”.
