Novak on Edwards

Posted by Bruno on December 21st, 2006

Bob Novak gives us his usual insider’s scoop on the Edwards campaign, but don’t think he gets the dynamic right. For example:

Stern and Hoffa are wary of early decisions, and there are things about the Edwards operation that their unions do not like. But their interest in him reflects largely unspoken discontent in Democratic ranks over a choice limited to Clinton and Obama.

Isn’t it possible that they’re backing Edwards because of all the work he’s done for labor causes over the past couple of years, especially on minimum wage stuff? Not to say Edwards is unabashedly altruistic — of course he’s been courting the unions with his work, but that’s the point.

Later in the peice, Novak makes some bizarre, unsupported allegations that, for some reason, Big Labor is “less than comfortable” with Elizabeth Edwards. Methinks this has much more to do with Novak’s uncomfortability than Labor’s. But there you go — Novak’s just planted the seed. Now it will become the CW that Elizabeth Edwards is the new Hillary Clinton.
