A Real Middle-Eastern Democracy

Posted by Matski on December 18th, 2006

Quick. What middle-eastern country with a history of U.S. intervention has actually managed to turn itself into a functioning (if flawed) democracy?

Hint: it’s not Iraq.

Opponents of hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took an early lead in key races in Iran’s local elections, according to partial results announced Monday, with moderate conservatives winning control of councils across the country.

In Bush’s simplistic world, democracy=good and nondemocracy=bad. Since Iran is a democracy, doesn’t that mean that Iran=good? However Bush — ever the deep thinker — says that Iran=bad. But good<>bad, so even the very simple logic of this very simple man breaks down very, very quickly.
