Adventures of the Seawolf: Terre Haute

Posted by Bruno on July 13th, 2006

The Prof’s post below gave me an idea. Those of you who listen to the podcast know that we’re always wont to give the Department of Defense a hard time for its screwed-up priorities. For a detailed analysis of the outdated, cold-war-era priorities that guide the $500-billion-a-year Defense budget, read Fred Kaplan here. The U.S. Navy has 55 nuclear subs, and the DoD keeps adding them on, at a cost of $3.6 billion. $3.6 Billion, it should be noted, is exactly what it would cost to add 30,000 troops to the U.S. Army, which, if deployed to Baghdad 2 or 3 years ago, could have probably won the war in Iraq.

Unfortunately, the boats just keep on comin’! So we here at Bruno and the Prof want to give Don Rumsfeld something to DO with all that naval hardware, in an effort to win the War on Terror, which the President keeps telling us is his NUMBER ONE priority.

For a long time we suggested that the Seawolf (don’t ask why it’s a Seawolf, it just is) be deployed to Grand Central Station, where it could sniff out suitcase nukes:

But now, it appears that Indiana has the most potential targets of any state in the union. So it only makes sense to move the Seawolf to Downtown Terre Haute, IN, where it can protect thousands and thousands of vulnerable Hoosiers:
