Take a look at the ratings of the users vs the “experts” on Soccernet’s panel. Generally, ratings of the Italy players are lower than the average agreed upon by those experts, with a couple of exceptions: the substitutes, and Daniele De Rossi, who was sent off in the 28th minute for a brutal elbow to the head of the U.S.’s Brian McBride.
What I find interesting here is that the US fans voting on Soccernet were actually more forgiving than the experts towards the lone member of the Italian team who was an unprovoked agressor. This suggests that there’s an innate human sympathy for bold violence — aggression is a maximin strategy.
