Now THAT’S a Domain

Forgive this bit of web nerdery, but I had no idea that U.S. aircraft carriers were big enough to have their own domain name:

“The Republicans Are in Disarray”

Posted by Bruno on June 26th, 2006

Apparently you have to cross the pond to read the above phrase in a news article. Aside from the typical British misuse of the word “neocon” (c’mon guys: it can’t possibly refer to both a shadowy cadre of New York Jewish intellectuals and Tom DeLay! Pick one!), the article lays out a positive trend [...]

Time was, Kevin Smith would seem pathetic by putting out “Clerks II”. Now it just strikes one as rather “Grup”-like:
Dude, if I’m wearing the Silent Bob coat when I’m 40,” Kevin Smith once told his old friend and producing partner, he should be shot. The producer, Scott Mosier, recalls this in the DVD extras for [...]

GM and Plug-in Hybrids

Posted by Bruno on June 26th, 2006

Apparently GM has decided that the Hail Mary play of waiting for Hydrogen isn’t enough. They’re looking to leap-frog Toyota with plug-in hybrids:
According to Bloomberg GM is hard at work on a plug-in and could show off a prototype in January that would get 60 mpg, with a production model possible by the end [...]

The offer of amnesty — not in the immigration debate; let’s switch gears here — to insurgents seems like something the Iraqi government has to do:
Several Sunni-led insurgent groups have approached the Iraqi government to try to start serious negotiations, following the Iraqi prime minister’s presentation on Sunday of a plan for national reconciliation, a [...]

This is Why We Don’t Read Human Events

Just ridiculous:
The House Republican leadership declared war on the Senate immigration-amnesty bill last week, aptly renaming it “Reid-Kennedy” in honor of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) and liberal icon Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.).
Reid and Kennedy were instrumental in moving the bill through the Senate—where Republican Sen. Bill Frist (Tenn.) remains nominal majority leader.
Right. Even [...]

Billions and Billions

The Mayor now claims he has an additional $2.6 billion for the viaduct replacement tunnel.
That would mean a total of $5bn in funds if it all comes through. Just goes to show you, if there’s a political will, there’s a way. Too bad there was no political will for the monorail… seems like [...]

…and say my glory was I had such friends…er, or friend…buddy.. um..okay, would you believe, “close acquaintance”?
Unsurprisingly, despite the rise of Friendster, MySpace and other technologies expressly designed to give you more friends, people report fewer close confidants than 20 years ago, according to a Duke University study:
Those interviewed in 1985 had an [...]

While the concept of suicidal Arab Muslims is scary enough, the prospect of “members of a radical African-American Muslim group” flying planes into the Sears Tower is freaky as all get out. Mohammad Atta meets Stokely Carmichael is basically White America’s worst nightmare!
F**kin’ A, dude — we’re screwed.
