The Real History of the US and Iran

Posted by Matski on May 22nd, 2006

Just finished reading All the Shah’s Men, an account of the CIA sponsored coup that in 1953 overthrew a nascent Iranian democracy and reinstalled the Shah as a despot. Fascinating. Among other tidbits, turns out General H. “Stormin’” Norman Schwarzkopf’s papa was one of the men who built the Shah’s police force, and Kermit Roosevelt — grandson of President Teddy — was the CIA’s chief executor of the plot.

This is a must-read for anyone who wants some additional background on the current conflict with Iran. And I gotta tell ya’, if I’m an Iranian politician, staring down a country, political party, and several families who’ve done my country terrible injustices time and again over the past half-century, I’d probably want a bomb, too.
