This only reinforces my impression that there’s no problem people won’t attempt to dodge if solving the problem requires a behavioral change.
I can’t wait for the spam to start rolling in: “With Fuel Freedom, you’ll take bigger trips that last longer!”

Interesting …
I’ve always found the Chinese diaspora fascinating. Many of them are essentially exiles. They left China not because they wanted to, but because they had to for religious, economic, or political reasons.
So, even the most staunchly liberal Chinese-Amis that I know get defensive when you bring up things like Tianamen — “That’s just China. You don’t know anything about it.”
And it’s doubly fascinating because historically this is how Chinese trading communities have formed throughout non-Chinese asia, in Singapore and Vietnam, for example. A group of exiles form a small (or large) Chinese expat community, and generally continue to think of themselves as Chinese first, regardless of where they live.
So this goes beyond simple PC, and has a definite air of “fifth-column-ness,” IMHO.
Not that the Chinese are our enemies … yet.
