As the Sonics fight for more of tax money, Josh Feit reminds us why the deal’s such a stinker. We’re going to pay for $200M in remodels, double the square footage, and somehow only gain 425 seats. Jeebus, that sounds like a waste of taxpayer money. There will be some expanded luxury boxes, of course.
For crissakes, the Seattle Opera built a whole new building for under $200M, and it seats many more people much more comfortably than even the finest seat at the Key. And they call opera fans elitists. McCaw Hall seems downright plebeian compared to what the Sonics have in mind for Key Arena.
Even The Weekly Standard understands that this is a load of crap.
