A reason why a US strike on Iran may be unlikely — we trained their airforce.

As this article in Jane’s indicates, Iran operates a Western-style air defence system, with the F-14 playing a critical role in the network.

Iran is the only other country in the world to operate the Tomcat. A revolutionary weapon in its time, the F-14 — immortalized in Top Gun — is still one of the world’s best fighter interceptors.

How did Iran develop this system? It’s a legacy of their relationship with the US under the Shah.
