Reports that Google will provide a Chinese-safe search engine are certainly ominous. Google officials anticipated criticism and explained themselves, in the process establishing the Google Conceit:

“While removing search results is inconsistent with Google’s mission, providing no information (or a heavily degraded user experience that amounts to no information) is more inconsistent with our mission,” a statement said.

This Googlization should be freely adapted to other situations, including but not limited to the following:

  • “While cutting 30,000 jobs is inconsistent with Ford’s mission, hemmoraging stock value is more inconsistent with our mission.” — Ford Motor Company
  • “While caving to foreign pressures to clear Orhan Pomuk of the offense of insulting the government is inconsistent with Turkey’s mission, alienating Europe and losing the possibilty of EU membership is more inconsistent with our mission.” — Turkish Authorities
  • “While peddling influence and alleged corruption is inconsistent with Bob Ney’s mission, not running for reelection is more inconsistent with my mission.” — Bob Ney

You get the idea . . .
