Another shameful episode of hypocrisy, brought to you by everyone’s favorite clowns, the GOP.

In hearings yesterday, GOP House leaders bullied, cajoled, and nitpicked Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson over a $1 billion shortfall in the VA’s medical budget this year.

This is the political equivalent of Tony Soprano dumping garbage on a man’s lawn and then sending him the bill for cleanup. The VA shortfall is entirely the result of of unexpected thousands killed, maimed, and otherwise wounded during the misguided and unnecessary imperial adventure in Iraq.

Nothing about this war — from troop levels to post-bellum veterans’ care — was adequately planned. And as support for the war erodes, GOP leaders are exhibiting a disturbing trend to blame their opposition, the American people, even the troops themselves for Rummy & Cos.’ shortcomings.

This is all getting very ugly.
