My favorite Republi-hack, David Brooks (who, to his credit, does a remarkable job of actually sounding intelligent while blindly following the leader), writes about the latest polls showing rapidly declining support for US involvement in Iraq.

Brooks writes:

“I can’t believe majorities of Americans really want to pull out and accept defeat”

Brooks then goes on to blame the character of the American people for plummeting polls, as if the same Red State souls that so bravely shed their blood for this country are now timid whingers begging mercy. (And isn’t this an eerie echo of how the old-timers who pushed the US into Vietnam came to see our Vets when failure became imminent?).

Um, David? Welcome to my world. As one of the 60 million Americans who couldn’t believe that the other 62 million who bothered to leave the house on that grey November Tuesday last year actually SUPPORTED the war, I am only shocked that it’s taken this long.

In an age when million dollar decisions are made in an eye’s blink, when a thousand jobs are off-shored at the push of a button, when it takes me about 30 seconds to publish my opinions for the consumption of the entire world, I’m absolutely appalled that America was somehow able to sleep through an entire election cycle before making up its mind that the decision to invade Iraq was unequivocally bad.

Eat poo, David Brooks, and enjoy writiing dissenting opinions for the next decade or so.
