Has anyone wondered if maybe the reason the White House isn’t getting anywhere with their proposals for Social Security “reform” is because they’re only talking to people they already agree with?

Seriously, if you make these events invite-only, if you pre-screen so that only supporters show up, doesn’t that, um, undermine the whole purpose, which is ostensibly to increase support for the plan?

Biologists say that the reason we’re all different is to give us an evolutionary advantage. You reproduce with someone who has completely different genes, and it increases the likelyhood your offspring will be resistant to disease. Openness is key to survival. Just ask any inbred monarch.

Of course, if you’re not really into the whole evolution thing to begin with, I can see how it would be compelling to sit in a room preaching to people who think and act exactly like you. Until you all die of horrible diseases, of course.
