Just a quick programming note: I’ll be off the air for the next two weeks, as I’m going to visit my buddy in the Peace Corps in Peru. Expect a newly-invigorated Professor Matski to pick up the slack while I’m gone. Which means more long treatises and less snarky links to GOP misdeeds.
Speaking of which, I expect the following things to happen while I’m gone:
1. Tom DeLay will step down as Majority Leader
2. Apple will release Tiger
3. Tax day will come and go
4. My hometown NY Mets will ease comfortably into 5th place in the NL East, getting the season off to a roaring start.
PS: speaking of Tom DeLay, what are the chances it’s going to take a full-fledged sex scandal to actually bring the guy down? Already he’s tainted with a gambling scandal, taking illegal money from the Russian Government, and generally acting more like a Mafia Capo than a U.S. Congressman. (On second thought, if he were a capo at least things would actually get done. And no self-respecting mobster would let himself get in the hole to the tune of $7.8 trillion large. Especially if known adversaries like China were holding the debt. Talk about an exposed flank!)
PPS: (channeling Kaus here…) I realize I’ve now posted twice about the GOP-as-Mafia metaphor. Maybe I need to go with that. People always talk about Bush & Co. as the “Mayberry Machiavellis.” What about “Mayberry Mafiosos.” Somehow seems more appropriate. I smell a new website project!
