Ok, listen: I’m not Joe Lieberman’s biggest fan. I’m not a Joe-pologist or anything. Still, there’s room for him in the Democratic Party. And anyone who says otherwise is a moron.
Joe Lieberman is a full-throated partisan Democrat, plain and simple. You might think his foreign policy is too hawkish or he’s too close to Wall Street (as he should be, since most of Wall Street lives in Connecticut). But he’s not Zell Miller. Zell Miller is a bitter hack who turned on his own party at the Republican Convention. Miller is a sellout. He’s also an idiot, if you’ve ever heard him speak or tried to read his book (I have). Lieberman is none of those things. He can go toe-to-toe (must…resist…pun…) with any other Democrat on civil rights and the environment.
In short, if the Democratic tent isn’t big enough for Joe Lieberman, than it’s not a serious national party. And like I said, I’m not the guys biggest fan. I didn’t caucus for him or anything. I just think he deserves more respect than these left-wing nutjobs are giving him.
