Bull Moose gets it right: “liberalism has become too reliant on the courts.”
That statement is the heart and soul of this brewing neo-localist movement. We thank the courts for having the foresight to do things like de-segregate schools, but the high court has been wrong as often as it’s been right (Dred Scott). Whitman continues:
Now that you have some time, liberals might want to go back to the political gym and build up their atrophied muscles. Maybe by taking your case to the people, you can get more in touch with them.
I used to think the Supreme Court was the be-all and end-all. I was terrified of the idea of Bush nominating a judge to that bench. I’m still mostly terrified, but I now realize that it’s a long way from appointing a judge to successfully turning back the clock on rights and protections. Most Republicans have failed to do that.
