I hate to jinx Kerry by talking about cabinet appointments on election eve, but this article is worth a read, if only because it puts Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels on the short list for Transportation Secretary.
That’s right.
All you Seattlites, please hold your laughter. Non-Seattlites, know that this is a man who has failed utterly to make progress in Seattle’s transportation woes. We’re currently building an overbudgeted light rail, and underfunded (but on-budget!) monorail, we have a downtown viaduct about to collapse to the tune of $4 billion.
And what has Nickels done? He’s put forth a plan that would add more trees to Mercer Street for ONLY $200 million!
Oh, and he colluded with billionaire Paul Allen to build a streetcar to nowhere for another $45M.
Who put this guy on the short list??
