Arguing about the CW

The post-election conventional wisdom has been pretty fluid so far, and I’m glad it’s shifting away from the “moral values” idea, and towards something bigger. I notice today’s NYTimes op-ed today pits Kristof against Brooks in an all-out battle for the CW. Kristof, following the old CW, argues that the Democratic “party’s image risks being defined even more by bicoastal, tree-hugging, gun-banning, French-speaking, Bordeau-sipping, Times-toting liberals, whose solution is to veer left and galvanize the base.”

It struck me… BOTH parties are run by the bicoastal elite: the liberals Kristof speaks about donate to and control the Democrats, and Wall Street donates to and controls the Republicans. The key difference is that the bicoastal elites who run the GOP are smart enough to keep quiet and let the heartland speak for them.
