A Success Story

Quick one. I sent this essay to my dad — a perpetual swing voter, in a swing state.

Dad is one of those I’ve talked about recently who lost faith in the Democratic brand a while back — “welfare mothers with crack babies” and all that propaganda crap. Dad and I got into it recently when I tried to instill in him the necessary sense of urgency about this election — that, despite Dad’s feelings about economics or social policy or the past and future failings of the Democrats, he must come to realize that Bush is leading us down a wrong and unretraceable path.

It’s my Dad, so I can’t say that the conversation went well for our side.

But then I sent the essay to my Dad. It’s basically the same arguments all of us know too well, but put in an extraordinarily eloquent way.

And then a miracle occured! In a heartfelt voice message yesterday, my Dad told me that the essay changed his mind, and he now plans to vote for Kerry! Thanks, Dad, for having the courage to change your mind, and score one for the good guys.

So I ask you: please, please, please, if you know any swing voters, forward them this essay. It worked on my Dad.
