I couldn’t help it after reading this: “It’s that extra bit of partisanship that comes out of this Administration. Smarmy, over-the-top partisanship that you’d never see out of a Democratic administration.”
Wasn’t Clinton accused of misusing the office of the President in Travelgate, using confidential FBI files of his adversaries, having the Internal Revenue Service target enemies, that whole Lincoln Bedroom thingy, Al Gore fundraising from his office, etc.?
Don’t all politicians do this? I always get crap in the mail from my representatives!
Hear hear!
I totally agree. It’s like this thing with Mike Wallace. You know Cheney framed him just because of the whole 60 Minutes report.
Yeah, there’s a difference, though, between the Clinton stuff and the Bush stuff I’m referring to. The GOP seems to be using some shady PR techniques to win the “war of ideas” in America. That’s different (maybe worse, maybe not) than using the office for fundraising.
My post may be poorly written, but I stand by the general point: The GOP relies on some well-oiled PR to make up for the fact that most of America doesn’t benefit from its policies. It’s manipulative.
Soon, of course, we’ll all stop believing it, just like we stopped believing TV commercials (anyone think that “4 out of 5 dentists” really were asked anything?). But that will be unfortunate for democracy.
Maybe I’d complain less if the Dems had the better PR machine, but it wouldn’t make the problem any less real.
