Iyad Illawi is asking the right questions:

“I spoke to some of them myself,” Mr. Allawi continued. “I told them: What are you trying to achieve? Let us know. Do you want to bring Saddam back to rule Iraq? Do you want to bring bin Laden to rule Iraq? We will fight you. You can’t do this.”

The insurgency will crumble when more Iraqis start to ask the same question. It’s no longer clear what the insurgents are fighting for. They’re losing their appeal, and they may even be doing a worse job at capturing the hearts and minds of Iraqis than the U.S.
