Catholics & Communion

Posted by Bruno on May 11th, 2004

Most of you know by now that the Professor and I are pro-choice Catholics, and damn proud of it. It’s disheartening to see stories like this getting so much attention. If this isn’t evidence of the press’ kowtowing to the Bush agenda, I don’t know what is. They’re constantly scrutinizing the man [...]

May 24: Big Night!

Posted by Bruno on May 11th, 2004

Mark your calendars! Monday May 24 is a must-attend broadcast for Bruno & the Prof. We’ll be hooking up with the release of a new book, “How to Get Stupid White Men Out of Office.” It’s a really great book, with all sorts of good ideas on how to get involved in [...]

End of Farm Subsidies?

Posted by Bruno on May 11th, 2004

Here’s some news. The EU is looking into reducing some of it’s farm subsidies, in an effort to comply with the WTO. That’s a good thing. Farm subsidies help the farmers in industrialized nations (EU, US, Japan), but hurt farmers in the third world. Farm subsidies make the developed nations look [...]

A Modest Proposal

Posted by Matski on May 6th, 2004

Americans guilty of war crimes? GASP! Next you’ll try and tell me that Henry Kissinger perpetrated evils in Chile and elsewhere … oh. Wait.
Those of you who caught the show the other night know how strongly I feel about this. Bush, take your crocodile tears and your whining about how “unAmerican” [...]

Props

To my compatriot, one Mr. Bruno, for all of his hard work getting this site together. While my fingers have been silent lately, I feel compelled to post a couple in honor of this momentous occassion.
One more small step towards the progressive future. Cheers, Bruno!

Fuzzy Math in Iraq

Posted by Bruno on May 6th, 2004

President Bush is asking congress for $25B more to cover Iraq expenses. Most folks acknowledge that this won’t cover all of 2005, it’s instead meant as a temporary measure.
So now we’re at what? $79B + $87B + $25B = $191B.
What pisses me off the most is this:
“I certainly expect [...]

Long-time listeners of the show know how the Professor feels about Iran. He often tells us how it’s probably the closest thing to a democracy in the Arab world (remember that Turks are not Arabs!). Nick Kristof is on the case in Tehran. Good stuff.

Gore’s Blood Money (reposted)

Posted by Bruno on May 5th, 2004

I posted this on the old site, but I thought it was interesting enough to re-post here…
Al Gore is pledging $6 million from his 2000 campaign war chest to Senator Kerry’s campaign. I guess this is Al’s way of saying “sorry” for that whole “endorsing Howard Dean” thing…
Al Gore can be forgiven, of course, [...]

Kerry’s new ads

Posted by Bruno on May 5th, 2004

Living in a swing state isn’t quite the political junkie’s wet dream that living in, say, New Hampshire might be (D.C. isn’t a state, after all). But we do have our perks. Tonight I saw THREE new ads from the Kerry campaign. These are the “bio” ads that everyone’s been clamoring for. [...]

Up and Running

Posted by Bruno on May 5th, 2004

OK, so we appear to be up and running at the new site. That wasn’t too bad. I flirted with another blogging software after Moveable Type seemed to be intractable. But now I’ve got it up and running again. Don’t know if I’ll be able to port over all the posts [...]
