Fuzzy Math in Iraq

Posted by Bruno on May 6th, 2004

President Bush is asking congress for $25B more to cover Iraq expenses. Most folks acknowledge that this won’t cover all of 2005, it’s instead meant as a temporary measure.

So now we’re at what? $79B + $87B + $25B = $191B.

What pisses me off the most is this:

“I certainly expect so,” Frist told reporters afterward when asked whether Congress would approve the funds. “It’s for our troops.”

Always wrapping ourselves in the glory of our troops…

It’s especially ridiculous considering this last nugget:

Of $18.4 billion provided last November for rebuilding that country’s economy and government, less than $2.8 billion has been spent or is owed to contractors, according to the Coalition Provisional Authority, the U.S.-led agency governing Iraq.

Hey, here’s an idea: Spend IT!! I mean, what better time than to start building some schools, roads, and hospitals. What are we waiting for the economy to rebound or something?
