End of Farm Subsidies?

Here’s some news. The EU is looking into reducing some of it’s farm subsidies, in an effort to comply with the WTO. That’s a good thing. Farm subsidies help the farmers in industrialized nations (EU, US, Japan), but hurt farmers in the third world. Farm subsidies make the developed nations look like real hypocrites when they talk of free trade, so it’s good to see these barriers coming down.

Of course, it’d be great if they added some provisions for Fair Trade, in addition to all the Free Trade, but that may be too much to ask for a Monday. Still, it’s progress.
